A number of factors can cause skin to harden, discolour, become adhesive or thicken. In such cases, a skin therapist can use special massage techniques to improve the blood supply and metabolism in the direct vicinity of the scar and to help detach the scar tissue from the underlying structures. This can make the scar thinner, suppler and less conspicuous. In addition, special products (containing silicones) can accelerate this process. Other available treatments in the case of scars are MTS treatment, microdermabrasion and chemical peels. Camouflage therapy is also an option when scars are involved.
