Botox against Wrinkles Are those lines and wrinkles on your face really starting to bother you? You can ensure these are enormously reduced or may even disappear altogether with the help of botulinum toxin ("botox"). A fresh and well rested appearance is now well within your reach!

Effects
Botulinum toxin is a natural, bacterial protein. Small doses of this substance are injected right below the surface of the skin into the muscles in order to reduce wrinkles, or perhaps even to remove them altogether. It specifically blocks the nerve impulse, which relaxes the muscles which are responsible for the excessive contractions which cause wrinkles. Other nerve functions, like the skin's sense of touch, are not affected by the procedure.

Application
Your facial muscles will contract every time you laugh, frown, concentrate or squeeze your eyes shut, which results in the creation of wrinkles and lines. Your skin will lose its elasticity when it gets older, resulting in these furrows becoming deeper and definitively edged in your face. Think about the frown lines between your eyebrows, these can become clearly visible, resulting in you looking angry or worried, even when this isn't the case at all. There is certainly also something to be said about preventative treatment: if you continue to relax the facial muscles which are responsible for your eventual wrinkles, the wrinkles won't appear in the first place.

What can you expect?
The initial effects of the treatment will become visible within approximately 2 to 3 days. The effect of the injections is always temporary. The effect will usually last for 4 months and often longer after several treatments. The timing of any subsequent treatment will depend on the duration of the effect with the individual person, naturally as well as his or her own wishes.

After treatment
The treatment doesn't result in any real inconvenience. You will often see some red spots on the injection sites shortly after the injections. The treatment will take no more than 15 minutes and you will be able to resume your usual activities very soon after this.

Botox against excessive perspiration

Effects
Botulinum toxin blocks the stimulus transfer from the nerve to the sweat gland, resulting in the sweat production being halted or reduced. The area to be treated against perspiration is injected at every other centimetre just below the skin's surface. A consultation with the doctor may result in the decision to numb the area to be treated with a cream which needs to be applied 1-2 hours before the procedure. This will take away most of the injection sensations. However, most patients don't experience the injections as painful and will go through the treatment without anaesthesia.

Application
There are lots of people who suffer from excessive perspiration in their armpits, palms of their hands, soles of their feet, but also on their foreheads. An unpleasant complaint which can really be quite troublesome. Pinpointing the cause of hyperhidrosis is often not possible.

What can you expect?
A treatment with botulinum toxin can prove very effective indeed and can lead to an approximate 95% reduction in the excessive sweat production. This doesn't influence the sweat production elsewhere in the body. The effect of the treatment is already somewhat visible after just two days. The sweat production will have been maximally reduced after two weeks. This is the right time to assess whether the treatment has been completely effective or whether a corrective treatment needs to be carried out by a doctor if a specific area of the treated skin has insufficiently reacted to the injections.

After treatment
How long the effects of the treatment will last differs from person to person, with an average of six to nine months. The treatment can subsequently be repeated without any problems. The treatment doesn't really cause any inconvenience, lasts no more than 15 minutes and you will soon be able to resume your normal activities again after the treatment.
